This is the article I have been waiting for. You nailed it: the privilege aspect that’s always lurking in the tone of, to loosely quote you, “it’s bad for you people but I’ll be just fine!” The weight loss injectables have further complicated this: only a very small percentage of non-wealthy people can afford to stay on these drugs, therefore there’s a “new thin” in the air that’s only accessible to privileged, wealthy people. Please keep up the excellent writing! And yes couches ROCK!

I think there may be an aspect of busyness being the great “equalizer” here. Seems like we’re all busy (speaking for the USA), and despite having knowledge of what we ought to be eating, and perhaps even the financial means to afford it, we don’t have the TIME to afford it. So we end up eating trash much of the time because our busyness left us no other options.

Lots of fascinating food for thought, looking actually forward to your discourse about eating, being healthy, but being privileged and wealthy too, include education, cultural capital and the "right" social circle ⭕ and we're talking the top 1% here, which of course a supposed to be "stand-in" for the other 99% these days as popularized by the upscale media including the NYT, New Yorker, The Atlantic or the WSJ etc...one equal wonders at times how some healthy lifestyles or behaviours are coming together especially chronologically in 24h and with the average income available, all talk about spending our way in, but no-one talks about how it happened, why it happened time after time, just like that it's a privilege in itself but don't ask for details because for what we know the next Avocada toast could be our Do nothing burger 🍔 Thank you and beautiful days ahead 🤓📚🔖💯

My husband and I reorganized our living room and now we have much more room to couch rot and it’s so lovely because I can be all curled up and cozy but it feels better then not being in my bed
