I really agree with the aesthetic images and vlogs as a protective layer. It really reminds me to bestdressed Ashley. I think both went through a period of there life under 20 when they shared a lot and then as they got older developed stronger boundaries of how much of themselves to share online. I do understand it as much as a fan I do sometimes miss the old style but alas at the end of the day, it’s their lives, people change. I think people sometimes hold YouTubers to such high standards, like someone is going to be a lot different at 23 than 17, of course they will change. Also enjoyed the article as a whole thank you :)
Justice for Emma! One of my Substack essays explains how her videos specifically comforted me during a pivotal season of depression. Now, my successes feel like call backs to that era and how we’ve both grown in the time since then.
BIG EMMA FAN HERE. I gave up on like all my fave vloggers but you’re so right, something about Emma feels so magnetic. I have absolutely nothing in common with her active life yet I’ll listen to her podcast with curiosity. She just seems….normal still. Whatever normal means in the realm of the internet.
Btw, I’d love to read that essay you wrote!! It sounds so interesting.
1. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is so good
2. Have you played Stardew Valley? That’s been my recent cozy game obsession
3. Justice for Emma – I can live with her being my boring comfort youtuber
I haven’t played yet!!! Have to get on that
Oh you ate w this one
