The panic of wanting to make sure you're maximizing your travel time is so real!! I just repeat the mantra "I can always come back" and truly try to make sure my vacation is a vacation by only planning one thing a day and then just letting the rest happen. But it's hard not to feel like you're missing out or doing it wrong!
arden yum speaks the truth and nothing but the truth. when reading that first section I’m reminded of pokemon games of all things. when I was a child and the internet was still at its infancy, playing pokemon was truly an adventure. i didn’t know what i’d find, i didn’t know how i’d face, i’d accidentally detour to a treasure trove, and i’d only discover the ghost living in the haunted TV because my friend tells me about it - and how you can only encounter him at midnight! as I got older though and internet guides becoming more apparent, pokemon became less exploration and more box-ticking where I’d already research what’s next, already choose a balanced team, no longer dillydally unless I knew the outcome. the worst part is that modern day pokemon games, over the last 5 years or so, have given up on making these “explorations” or “side quests” and similar to how your Paris is now summed into trendy cafes and art pieces you MUST visit — the magic of discovery is lost in the tall grass. thanks for sharing!
